A Hike Along Scripps Coastal Reserve, La Jolla

In the late afternoon today, we hiked along the upland portion of Scripps Coastal Reserve, also known as “the Knoll.” It’s an easy-going trail that runs about a half-mile, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On this particular day, it was cold, rainy, and INCREDIBLY WINDY. If you’re not careful, you could easily fall off a cliff.

Not only are you treated with impressive views of the ocean, the beach, and La Jolla, but you can also see the backyard of Ron Burkle’s spectacular mansion.

A week in London

I spent seven days in Shoreditch, a neighborhood located approximately 20 minutes east of Central London. Though I've done a lot during my stay, I do feel that I've barely scratched the surface of this gorgeous and huge city named London.

As a result, I still have a few experiences on my London bucket list that I need to accomplish the next time I visit:

  1. Ice Skate at Somerset House
  2. Visit the Winter Garden, in the Landmark Hotel
  3. View the London Skyline from The Shard
  4. Watch a football match at Wembley
  5. Travel to the English countryside.

The Tate Modern, London, UK

The Tate Modern is located on the banks of the River Thames in a former power station. It houses both British and international art: Jane Alexander, Andy Warhol, and Pablo Picasso to name a few.

I absolutely loved getting lost in the exhibits of this museum! Be sure to not miss the observation deck on the top floor of The Tate's Switch House - where you'll be treated to views of St. Paul's Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge, to name a few.

Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, UK, has an immense collection of art ranging from textiles, sculptures, paintings, to photography. My favorite is their photography collection, which is thoughtfully curated. The museum even has a beautiful courtyard for you to take a break and take in the serene surroundings.

Happy Birthday to the Aussie!

Today is the Aussie's birthday. This photo was a test photo that he graciously sat for while I tinkered with the lights' exposure settings. Obviously this was one of the first shots, because as the testing went on, his weariness began to really reveal itself via obnoxious facial expressions and body poses with each test photo I took. I will not post those photos here, as I'm sure he'll be quite embarrassed.

Portrait of Andre Leffall, San Francisco, California

Andre Leffall (leffallliving.com/andre) is a real estate professional based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I had the pleasure of photographing him at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco last summer.

I met Andre through his husband Kevin. Kevin worked with my husband at Children's Hospital Oakland. Each time Darren and I had dinner with Kevin and Andre, I was always amused by the same look that fell over Kevin and Darren's faces each time Andre and I would talk about the Oakland A's, or insisting on taking a picture of our meal: the look of strained patience. I know that the phrase "strained patience" is a bit of an oxymoron, but that's really the best way to describe it.
